"What We Have Always Misunderstood About the Prodigal" — SUNDAY SERMON

"So this passage, the Prodigal Son, is pretty well known. It is a classic. In fact, more people know the story of the Prodigal Son than those who know that it comes from the Bible. It may well be the greatest short story of all time. It has all the pieces that make a great short story… including an amazing parenting figure (the Father), and a remarkably stupid son (the Prodigal, of course). It’s all pretty cut-and-dry. And the sermons on the subject of the Prodigal son usually take a pretty harsh and critical tone with the kid. And well, it’s that’s pretty understandable, right?!

And, we all think that we know the story from here, right. But, not too fast. You’ve got this story all wrong. I’ve gotten this story all wrong..."

Kevin Young

Dr. Kevin Young hails from the cornfields of the Midwest but currently enjoys the South Florida sunshine with his beautiful and talented partner Sally (Elder) and their four incredible kids: Libbie, Lucy, Harris, and Matthew. He is a media guy turned minister. You’ll find him to be passionate, creative, insightful, a lifter of heavy things for fun, and above all else… quirky. His doctorate—in Semiotics and Future Studies in regard to the Church—led him on a journey to discover fresh ways to form faith using tried and true ancient methodologies. It also led him away from the institutional church. Though Kevin has pastored several of America’s largest and fastest-growing churches, he left that behind to start Christ’s Table, a hybrid ministry focused on reaching those disillusioned and disconnected from their faith by resurrecting and practicing the original ways in which the Early Church lived and worshipped.
